They found that they had an abundance of creative chemistry together and decided to form a band together, and since both of them were native to Boulder, Colorado, they took their collective postcode, 303, as the name of the band. Both of them were already making their first attempts at creating electronic music at the time, so after they became friends, they decided to team up and see what they could create. The album included both of the previously released singles as well as "Vampire's Diet," featuring Bert McCracken of the Used.The duo is made up of Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte, who met while they were both studying at the University of Colorado Boulder. Second single "I'm So Sad" was released before Need arrived in October of 2021. The duo's sixth album Need was preceded by their 2020 single "Lonely Machines," a bouncy track made in collaboration with hyperpop act 100 gecs. After promotion concluded for the album cycle, the pair retreated for the remainder of the decade, emerging for a few one-off performances in 2018. 3Oh!3 returned in 2013 with their fourth studio album, Omens, which featured the single "You're Gonna Love This." In 2016, the band signed with the Fueled by Ramen label, which issued the full-length Night Sports. The duo went back into the studio with producer Matt Squire, and in 2010 they released their third album, Streets of Gold. In addition to their album releases, 3Oh!3 are known for their live performances, including a national series of shows on the 2008 Warped Tour. Their second LP, Want (2008), was produced by Matt Squire and released by Photo Finish Records. 3OH!3 made their recording debut in 2007 with a self-titled, independently released album.
